Throughout its existence, ¨La Cansera¨ house at 10 A Pena, Ferreiros, has been dedicated to hosting. (SeeThe story of The Cansera). Since Fina & Daniel moved into the house, they have opened their home and their hearts every day to the pilgrims of St. James.
After their personal experiences during each of their many journeys down the "Camino de Santiago" (See "Our Story") Fina & Daniel decided to offer pilgrims a place on The Way where human relationships are put above all else.
"La Cansera" spirit is both simple and complex at the same time.
The Spirit of "La Cansera" is simple because it is:
Hospitality
The door is open from morning to evening to all pilgrims who are attracted by the magic of this place.
Welcome
It starts with a 'Good morning' (Don´t laugh , this word is too often forgotten on The Way). After a few words about the physical journey during the first steps on the road, we offer pilgrims a little rest in antique school desks, a chance to hear the tale of our history (See "Our history" ) and…
Generosity
So often this word refers only to money. "La Cansera¨ offers everything it can without asking for anything in return. Here, the pilgrim is totally free. We ask only that he or she listens to his or her heart or… if it seams easier, to his or her wallet.
Listening
Obviously, Fina & Daniel are delighted tell their history, but above all, they delight in listening to each pilgrim talk about their experiences, their wonderful meetings, their disappointments, their promises of the pilgrimage, their albergue issues, their experiences with unknown languages… Listening also goes back to a more ancestral meaning, a stronger ,more important, more personal significance of enjoying the silence, the gurgling of the fountain on the front porch, the chirping of birds, the hum of insect wings, the air rustling through the leaves…
Advice
The most common advice given is usually about how the number of kilometers there are to the next destination that day. But also we try to advise pilgrims about the risk of drinking from water sources without sanitary control, about how to properly carry their backpacks or how to lift it without injuring yourself, about the journeys to come and the shelters available, taxi facilities, and several ideas about the way back home… Also, we will not forget to advise pilgrims to visit some friendly places at their arrival in Santiago de Compostela.
Share
"La Cansera" lives from and for sharing. Meal times, both breakfast and dinner , are probably the moments in which we are most able to share the pilgrims´ stay. Every meal becomes a different family meeting each day. Each meal is mix of culture and ethnicity.
The Spirit of "La Cansera" is sometimes also tricky, because sometimes, in the first contact, the concept seems incomprehensible to many people. It seems TOTALLY unreal and amazing to find, nowadays, such a Spirit of Hospitality. The modern world is engulfed by the obligations of money and business. But after learning more about our history and experiences and passing a few moments with us, the spirit of "La Cansera" becomes clear. Then, it is understood and encouraged.
