LA CANSERA DEL CAMINO

NEWS OF 25-01-2019

Good morning everyone.

¬
We have already changed the year and, with it, good intentions come. So we will start by telling you something about La Cansera del Camino.

First of all, our website, which was homemade created ten years ago, needed a technological update; that is why we have had to change its style to adapt it to new communication devices. You can discover its new design in the next news.

We also kept on fixing the house a little more: at the entrance we have covered the ceiling in wood, taped the walls and placed a spectacular lamp using an old wagon wheel. Likewise, we have begun the reform of the space located above the kitchen, which will be the living room-library, and started the installation of the heating.

With all this, the orchard, in addition to suffering from inclement weather, endured the absence of the farmer. Consequently, it has been a poor harvest year; therefore, almost no preserves and jams. Fortunately, previous, more generous years had allowed us to build up reserves. And so, just like the ant in the tale, we have enjoyed them during the winter.

In addition, a considerable snowfall came down on October 28, 2018. Because it was too early, the snow was loaded with water and weighed a lot. The consequences were disastrous for the trees, which had not lost their leaves and fruit yet. The branches, brimming with heavy snow, snapped and mutilated many of them, such as chestnuts, oaks and fruit trees.

As for our doggies, we mourn the loss of Beo, the Labrador, the youngest, the athlete. After suffering a stomach torsion on August 20, 2018, he was unable to survive the postoperative period. We have welcomed a German shepherd from the animal shelter of Lugo, whom, following tradition, we have called Bea. She is already, more or less, a year and a half old. After a period of adaptation, she is very happy with Jaco and with us. She is very affectionate, although a bit jealous, especially when we pamper Jaco. She gets overly happy and almost uncontrollable when she sees the leash for a walk. (See some photos Chapter 7Chapter 8Chapter 9)

Regarding the Camino de Santiago, the number of pilgrims who arrive each year to visit the apostle continues to grow. (See Camino statistics) As you can see, the Portuguese Way is the subject of growing enthusiasm, with 15,117 more pilgrims than in 2017; that is, 22.7% more, to the detriment of the French Way, which only has 5,466 more pilgrims than in 2017; that is, 3% more.

Now the French Way does not pass in front of the door of the house. With the idea of updating the historical trails, the French Way, passing through our village of A Pena, turns off and runs along a recently rehabilitated path, located below the house. At the same time, the famous landmarks have changed, both physically and in terms of kilometres. Thus, the famous kilometer 100, formerly located between Brea and Morgade, is now located in A Pena, just 80 meters from our house.

In our next news we will tell you more about the Camino.

We also continue to discover some wonderful tourist places, of the many that are in Galicia. We have traveled along a part of the Costa da Morte, which is sometimes rocky, with sandy beaches, dizzying cliffs and small fishing ports. (See some photos)

We also visited the Cíes Islands. They are a paradise, almost uninhabited, where sandy beaches mix with clear waters and forests on rocky mountains and cliffs.(See some photos)

Another day we took a boat and sailed along the banks of the Sil River, where vines are grown on the steep slopes for the production of wines with the Ribeira Sacra denomination of origin.(See some photos)

And nothing else for now…

We are waiting for you at La Cansera del Camino.
